Dhaneshvar

Dhaneshvar was a Brahman of Avanti in Hindu mythology. Having strayed from the right path prescribed in the scriptures, he committed thousands of sin and remained indulged in sinful activities. However, he once went to Mahishmati and watched a religious performance by a large number of people from far and wide assembled there. Soon afterwards he died of snake-bite. His soul was taken to Yamlok, where after hearing from Chitragupt about his sins committed on earth, Yam asked for him to be put into a cauldron of boiling oil. As soon as he was put into the cauldron, the boiling oil cooled down. The attendants in their surprise rushed back to Yam and related what happened. The sage Narad was present there who explained the mystery and said that his sins had been washed off by watching some people worshiping the gods in Mahishmati just before his death.
